Great Results in Bromley!
A coordinated approach delivers results…
And our recent bit of good news out of Bromley, proves it!
Last month, the second Bromley Retail Crime Working Group took place, chaired by Superintendent Luke Baldock, to discuss updates on previous actions. A huge amount of work and effort has gone into building Criminal Behaviour Orders for the most prolific offenders with the aim of reducing crime in the area. The results from four initial warnings were overwhelmingly positive - all offenders who were pointed out by businesses as prolific have been dealt with by the local policing team, and have not returned to the area since, showcasing a positive reduction of theft over the past four months.
It’s a truly fantastic result!
We continued by exploring the local and online stolen goods markets issue, discussing intelligence gathering for online re-sellers to identify and address the re-selling of stolen goods, in order to tackle shop theft from a different angle.
Statistics show that 70% of retail crime is committed by individuals with a drug/alcohol addiction, so it was wonderful to see the inroads made by Project Adder with their holistic approach to reducing drug-related offending. The project includes a drug intervention programme that aims to reduce custody time and recall to prisons, as well as providing a support network to vulnerable individuals.
We were also pleased to hear from Business Crime Hub that retail crime will now be included in the new MPS policing plan, reinforcing their commitment to help and support businesses across the capital.
Our Engagement Officer Step said: ‘Bromley businesses have always been keen to be part of the solution and we are proud that their intelligence sharing has led to the disruption of our most prolific local offenders’ criminal behaviour. Bromley MPS is very supportive of our work and we are keen to be part of the development this group will bring in terms of tackling business crime, locally and pan-London.’
This progress and these results are only possible because of incredible collaborative efforts from all involved. A huge well done to all!
